Only a small number of vehicles sold world-wide separate the top three manufacturers and the competition will continue as more factories are opened in China to supply the world's largest population.
Toyota sold the most vehicles world-wide in 2013 with a total of 9.98 million. Second is Volkswagen wth 9.73 million while General Motors is third with 9.71 million. Volkswagen includes heavy-duty truck sales from its MANSE and Scania AB units, while General Motors only includes light-duty vehicles for the total.
Although General Motors dropped to third place in 2013, it's ludicrous to think General Motors will never be at the top again. General Motors was the world's largest auto manufacturer from 1931 to 2007.
