The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers reports that "nationwide, 7.25 million workers and their families depend on the auto industry."
There are 943,619 employed in the auto industry in Michigan, which should be expected, and auto industry jobs account for 19.9% of all jobs in the state.
Interesting fact: The national average age of vehicles is 11.2 years. In Michigan, the average age of vehicles is 10.4 years. Does that indicate since more workers are employed in the industry that they trade autos more often? Or, does the severe winter weather add excessive wear and tear and autos don’t last as long as in states with warmer climates?
Why then, in Florida where the auto industry workforce is only 2.5% of all jobs, is the average age of vehicles only 10.2 years?
