May New Auto Sales Drop 6.1%
Posted on: 06/14/2016
The drop in new auto sales in May was the first monthly drop in nearly six years.
GM, Toyota, Ford, Honda and Nissan all reported a decrease in May. General Motors’ sales fell 18%, Toyota dropped 10% and Ford had a decrease of 6%.
Manufacturers with increases included Fiat Chrysler and Subaru with sales up 1% for each. Hyundai had an increase of 12%.
This year May had one less weekend than May 2016 and this could explain, in part, for the decline. TrueCar estimated that incentive spending rose 7% in May to an average of $3,034 per vehicle.
