Flood Damaged Cars
Posted on: 10/14/2015
The first estimate of flood damaged vehicles in South Carolina is at least 12,000 according to the state insurance director.
Although thousands of these vehicles should be scrapped after being branded “flood damage” a huge number will be moved out-of-state and, as it seems after all natural disasters, reappear with “clean” titles. The vehicles receive new carpet, new seats and other parts that in any way can indicate water damage. The image of the vehicle is like that of other autos offered for sale, i.e. clean, shiny and a fragrance that covers any mildew odor.
After a period to let flood damaged vehicles dry completely, often the vehicle will operate without any problems, albeit for a short time. Then the problems such as rust can begin to cause severe problems that can include electrical and mechanical.
Experts agree that with the purchase of any used vehicle a buyer should get a vehicle condition report and have the vehicle checked by a certified mechanic. A test drive is also a necessary requirement.
